Homeless Outreach Director

Plans and organizes homeless forums, stand-downs, and special homeless projects and events. Applies for homeless services grants through various funding streams, and encourages and organizes fundraising. Responsibilities include contact with the homeless, planning and delivering basic need items, and providing workshops to the homeless community. Creates a local comprehensive list of services for the homeless, which includes information on shelter and hostel vacancies and housing rights. Liaises with appropriate voluntary and statutory agencies, undertaking publicity tasks to promote awareness, recruiting, training, and managing employees and volunteers, and encouraging and organizing fundraising.

Coordinates intake and individualized needs assessments for all clients and works with clients to develop Individualized Service Plans (ISP) that address barriers to obtain services/housing.; Assesses clients for any city, county, state, or federal voluntary services or statutory rights they have which includes provisions for food, shelter, health, job, and financial aid and helps to make the referrals.

Outreach to community, business owners, realtors, landlords, housing developers and other service providers to identify new and existing opportunities and build strong relationships to better assist clients in accessing resources, employment, supportive services, and housing opportunities.

Barber to the Homeless

Identifies and builds rapport with homeless individuals and families living on the street or in vehicles. Assists clients in breaking the cycle of homelessness by moving from the street to interim housing, accessing necessary social services, and rapidly obtaining permanent housing. Navigators will provide individualized client support throughout this entire journey by helping each client develop a plan to address their barriers, increase their income, and maintain and sustain permanent housing. As part of the plan, the Navigator will identify each area in which clients will need assistance to accomplish the outlined goals and objectives (i.e. scheduling appointments, applying for public benefits, identifying subsidized housing, etc.).

Free Haircuts are provided to the homeless community when we go out on a mission.

    Reduces suicide ideation
    Assists in the ability to relax (self-soothe) in order to complete uncomfortable tasks.
    Reduces stress by providing companionship while in stores and other environments.
    Encourages socialization by getting out of the house for walks.
